What size sailboat is Sea-EV rated for?
Sea-EV 4kw brushless motor, is recommended for sailboats up to 33 ft. long, and 12,000lb displacement. We are releasing new models of Sea-EV including a larger model of the Sea-EV for boats up to 44 feet in 2008.

What happened to the original Sea-EV motor mount system?
Due to overwhelming demand we are releasing new models of the Sea-EV system which will be available from selected distributors beginning spring 2008. We have discontinued production of the original mount system at this time to allow for production of our new models.

How long can the sailboat go on a battery charge?
This depends on how many batteries you have, your speed and size of your boat. For our test boat, a Catalina-27 with the Sea-EV and just four Optima blue top batteries we are able to run 2 hours at 50-70% throttle.

Do I need a generator to recharge my batteries?
No, most people use a battery charger plugged into shore power. Having a small generator will allow you to charge your batteries on long trips. The Honda 2000i portable generator is very popular.

Do I need to haul out my boat for installation?
No, Sea-EV is designed to work with your existing prop shaft.

What type of batteries should I use?

You need Deep Cycle Batteries. There are many types batteries available. Some types are less expensive, but will not last as long. Many people prefer the GEL type batteries for there durability. However, they are more expesive than lead acid batteries. We chose the Optima blue top batteries for our test boat.
